Close at Hand

Poetry · 2025 · Sandy Shugart
We keep a list of plans for building, remodeling, adorning this place we love to live, so it may continue to hold our unfolding dreams, a kind of homely cathedral, always under construction. A world of suppliers, apparently chained, offers all manner of services materials, promises of fast fulfillment, some assembly required. But we make of each day a gathering of what is already here, has always been here: native, abundant, grounded ready to be employed. We build with what we have always had close at hand.
